Summer is hot and full. Winter with snow on the valleys is spectacular, but flights are cancelled more often.<\/td><\/tr>\n        <tr><th>Balloon flight<\/th><td>Takes off around sunrise, roughly an hour in the air. Pick-up from your hotel is in the dark, often around 04:30. Read the section below before you book.<\/td><\/tr>\n        <tr><th>Bring<\/th><td>Proper walking shoes \u2014 the valleys are dust and rock, not paths. A jacket for the morning, even in summer. Often. This is a good thing.<\/h2>\n    <p class=\"lead\">Ballooning in Cappadocia is tightly regulated by the Turkish civil aviation\n       authority, and flights are grounded whenever the wind is wrong. That safety record is why\n       you should be pleased when it happens \u2014 but it does mean planning around it.<\/p>\n\n    <div class=\"g3\">\n      <div class=\"card\">\n        <div class=\"ico\">\ud83d\udcc5<\/div>\n        <h3>Book two nights<\/h3>\n        <p>If the first morning is cancelled, you have a second. Visitors who book one night and\n           get grounded go home without flying, and it is nobody's fault.<\/p>\n      <\/div>\n      <div class=\"card\">\n        <div class=\"ico\">\ud83d\udcb8<\/div>\n        <h3>What happens if it is cancelled<\/h3>\n        <p>Weather cancellations are refunded or moved. That is written into your quote before you\n           pay \u2014 not discovered at 05:00 in a hotel lobby.<\/p>\n      <\/div>\n      <div class=\"card\">\n        <div class=\"ico\">\u26a0\ufe0f<\/div>\n        <h3>Nobody can guarantee it<\/h3>\n        <p>If an operator promises you a guaranteed flight on a specific date, they are either\n           misinformed or lying. The weather decides, and so does the authority.<\/p>\n      <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n\n    <div class=\"note\">\n      <p><b>An unpopular opinion, honestly given:<\/b> the balloons are genuinely wonderful, but\n         Cappadocia is worth the trip even if you never leave the ground. The underground cities,\n         the rock churches and a walk through Rose Valley at sunset are the parts people describe\n         years later. Do not build the whole visit around one hour in the air.<\/p>\n    <\/div>\n  <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n<section class=\"sec\">\n  <div class=\"wrap\">\n    <p class=\"eyebrow\">What to do<\/p>\n    <h2>Two days, done properly<\/h2>\n    <div class=\"steps\">\n      <div class=\"step\">\n        <div class=\"k\">Day 01<\/div>\n        <h3>The valleys<\/h3>\n        <p>G\u00f6reme Open-Air Museum early, before the coaches. Then Devrent and Pa\u015faba\u011f, and a walk\n           down Rose Valley in the late afternoon light.<\/p>\n      <\/div>\n      <div class=\"step\">\n        <div class=\"k\">Day 02<\/div>\n        <h3>Underground and up high<\/h3>\n        <p>Balloon at sunrise if the wind allows. Then Derinkuyu or Kaymakl\u0131 underground city, and\n           U\u00e7hisar castle for the view over everything.<\/p>\n      <\/div>\n      <div class=\"step\">\n        <div class=\"k\">If you stay longer<\/div>\n        <h3>Slow down<\/h3>\n        <p>Ihlara Valley, a pottery workshop in Avanos, or simply an afternoon on a cave hotel\n           terrace watching the light change on the rock.<\/p>\n      <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n  <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n<section class=\"sec sec-sand\">\n  <div class=\"wrap\">\n    <p class=\"eyebrow\">Cave hotels<\/p>\n    <h2>Some are carved rock. Some are a stone wall and a photograph.<\/h2>\n    <ul class=\"inc\">\n      <li><b>A real cave room<\/b><span>Carved into the rock, cool in summer, very quiet. Windows are small or absent \u2014 worth knowing if that would bother you.<\/span><\/li>\n      <li><b>\"Cave-style\"<\/b><span>A normal room with stone cladding. Cheaper, brighter, and not the same thing. Photographs rarely make the difference clear.<\/span><\/li>\n      <li><b>The terrace matters<\/b><span>At sunrise the balloons rise around you. A hotel with a good terrace is worth more than one with a bigger room.<\/span><\/li>\n      <li><b>Steps<\/b><span>These are old buildings on a hillside. You would fly before dawn, rush three\n         sites and fly back exhausted, with no balloon. Two nights is the minimum that works.<\/p>\n    <\/details>\n    <details>\n      <summary>Is it suitable for children?<\/summary>\n      <p>Yes \u2014 the underground cities and the strange rock shapes fascinate them.
