Practical matters
The things worth sorting before you fly
- MoneyKazakh cards generally work, but tell your bank you are travelling. Carry some cash — many small places are cash-only.
- The flight is long enough to matterSix hours from Almaty. Worth paying for a decent seat, and worth arriving a day before any appointment.
- Travel insuranceNot covered by anything at home. Inexpensive, and it should include repatriation.
- Documents for childrenIf a child travels with only one parent, notarised consent from the other is often required. Check before the airport, not at it.
- Halal foodWidely available and normal here — no special arrangement needed, but say so and we book accordingly.
- Prayer facilitiesMosques everywhere, and prayer rooms in airports, malls and most hospitals.

How long can I stay without a visa?
There is a limit per entry and a separate limit per 180 days. Overstaying carries fines and entry bans. Send us your dates and we confirm the current rule in writing before anything is booked.
Can I get by in Turkish?
More than you would expect. Numbers, food, directions and courtesies overlap heavily with Kazakh. For anything that must be exact — a hospital appointment, a contract — we arrange a proper interpreter.
Is it good value compared with home?
For hotels and restaurants, generally yes. For electronics and imported goods, no. Come for the food, the coast and the service, not for the shopping mall.
Can you arrange the internal flights too?
Yes. İstanbul to Antalya, Cappadocia or İzmir is a short domestic hop and we book it with enough connection time that a delay does not ruin the day.
