Where are you travelling from?
Not where you are going — where you are coming from. Visa rules, flight times, what your insurance covers and what your bank card will do are different for every country, and nobody writes it down. We did.
Nine countries
Pick yours.
Each page is written for that country specifically — not a translated version of the same text. The questions a British visitor has are not the questions an Iranian visitor has.
Germany
What your Krankenkasse covers, the roaming trap, and planning a family visit rather than a holiday. 3 hours, no visa.
United Kingdom
Your GHIC does not work here — not partially, not at all. Plus the passport validity rule that catches more people than the visa rule ever did.
Russia
Assume your bank card will not work, and plan the trip around that. Three hours, and no time change at all.
Kazakhstan
Tenge cannot be exchanged here, the flight is longer than people expect, and children travelling with one parent need paperwork.
Kyrgyzstan
Six and a half hours, often overnight. Why you should book the room from the night before and leave your first day empty.
Azerbaijan
Three hours, one language, and an honest note about when you genuinely do not need an agency at all.
Iran
Your card will not work anywhere in Türkiye. How to plan around that, and why the language question depends on which city you are from.
Qatar
You are not coming for sun. Where to find 22°C and rain in August — and why you should book it in winter.
Bulgaria
You can drive. Which means the border, the Green Card, the HGS toll sticker — and the fact that your EHIC stops working at it.
Not on the list? Write anyway. We work with visitors from everywhere — these nine are simply the countries we know well enough to put in writing. Tell us your passport and we will confirm the current rules for you personally.
Why these pages exist
A booking site shows you hotels. It cannot answer this.
Every one of these pages was written to answer the questions people actually send us — the ones that come before choosing a hotel, and that no comparison site is set up to handle.
- Will my health cover work? The answer is different for a German, a Briton and a Bulgarian — and it is "no" more often than people assume.
- Can I pay for things? For some visitors this is the single biggest practical issue of the whole trip.
- Do I need a visa, and for how long?Rules change. We confirm yours in writing before anything is booked, rather than publishing a number and hoping.
- Will anyone understand me?Honestly, and by region — not a blanket reassurance.
- When should I come?Including which weeks to avoid, and why. Sometimes that means telling you not to travel when you wanted to.
- Is it worth using an agency?Sometimes no. We say so on the pages where it is true.

We confirm the rules that apply to you, then quote the trip. In writing, usually the same day.
